Last night, a Northern Virginia woman was jogging in the town of Braddock, in Alexandria when she was hit by a car. The driver did not stop after the collision and now police are searching for the driver. The accident occurred at the intersection of Ox Road and Zion Drive. The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run is described as a small, gray sedan. Witnesses say the sedan was making a right turn on a red light from Zion Driver onto Ox Road around 6:30 pm. Most importantly, the jogger had the right of way in the crosswalk when the driver hit her. Fortunately, the woman did not suffer any life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Exact injuries are not known at this time, however. Fairfax County Police are asking anyone with information or whereabouts of the driver to call them at (410) 995-1515.

Sadly, pedestrian accidents occur every day across the country, with several accidents already occurring in 2015. Often times, pedestrians are seriously injured or killed because there is no way for them to protect themselves. Injured pedestrian accident victims deserve fair compensation to cover medical expenses for serious and permanent injuries caused by negligent drivers.

In a Virginia pedestrian accident case, it must be determined whether the pedestrian was lawfully crossing the street at the time of the crash. In other words, was the pedestrian crossing the street against the signal, crossing outside the crosswalk, or texting while crossing, or was the pedestrian crossing with the “walk” signal and inside the crosswalk. Because Virginia is a contributory negligence state, if the victim pedestrian is negligent in any way, they cannot recover in a civil lawsuit. However, in this accident, the victim was crossing the street in the crosswalk with the “walk” signal, and the vehicle that hit her was turning on a red light.
