How to Get a Copy of Your Police Accident Report in Maryland

If you were in a car accident in Maryland, you'll likely need a copy of the police report, whether it's for your insurance claim, your own records, or a legal claim you're pursuing. Here's where to get it, based on where the accident happened.

Maryland State Police (most county roads)

• Wait at least 10 days after the accident before requesting: reports take time to process.
• By mail: Download and complete the Request for Motor Vehicle Crash Report form, and mail it with a $4 check or money order (no cash) to the address on the form.
• In person or by email: Visit the Central Records Division (Mon–Fri, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) or email your completed request form, then mail the $4 fee to complete it.
• Timeframe to request: Reports are generally available for up to 12 months after the accident.

Baltimore City

Contact the Baltimore Police Department's Central Records Division directly instead of Maryland State Police.

Baltimore County

Requests go through the Baltimore County Police Department by mail, using their Police Report Request Form.

Toll Roads / MDTA Police (I-95, JFK Highway, Bay Bridge, etc.)

If your accident happened on a Maryland Transportation Authority road, request the report from MDTA Police's Central Records Unit by mail, including a self-addressed stamped envelope. Requests shouldn't be submitted until at least 7 days after the accident.
