Greenbelt Immigration Lawyers
Helping Bring Your Family Together
As a United States citizen, you can bring a fiancé from another country to the U.S. to get married. A citizen can obtain what is called a fiancé visa (K-1 visa), which allows their future spouse to enter the U.S. with the specific intent of marrying them. Our experienced Greenbelt immigration lawyers from Portner & Shure, P.A. can ensure that your case is processed correctly and with as few delays as possible. We’re here to help you and your family realize your dreams of leading a life in the United States.

How to Get a Fiancé Visa
Certain requirements must be met to process the fiancé visa. For instance, you must be able to prove that you and your fiancé have met face to face at least one time within the last two years prior to filing for the visa. However, in certain cases of extreme hardship, or where meeting face to face would violate cultural or religious norms, there are exceptions. There are other requirements that must be met, along with evidence that needs to be presented to process the case.
Once the visa is granted for your fiancé to enter the U.S., the marriage must take place within 90 days of your fiancé entering the United States. Otherwise, your fiancé may be forced to leave the U.S.
Depending on your circumstances, it might be advisable for you and your fiancé to get married and apply for an immediate family petition (rather than proceeding with the fiancé visa). That is why discussing your circumstances with an experienced immigration attorney is always advisable. The Greenbelt immigration attorneys at Portner & Shure will review your situation and advise you on your best options.
