Recent Defective Product Recalls in 2018

As a consumer, you place your trust in a company that the goods and services they provide are safe and fulfill their intended purpose. After all, when you spend your hard-earned money on something that you need or want, you expect that what you get in return is worth the investment. Unfortunately, however, many products made and distributed do not live up to the standards of safety we expect of them and even cause injury in some cases. If this happens you may have a defective product claim.

At Portner & Shure, P.A., Attorneys at Law, we value the safety of all people and are here in the event that you experience injury from a consumer product. We also believe it’s important that you know about any recent product recalls so that you can be informed of any dangerous products you may have purchased, especially any safety devices or children’s’ products.

Here are a few of the most recent product recalls you should be aware of:

  • Kidde Smoke Alarms: Over 450,000 units that were sold between September 2016 and January 2018 have been recalled due to a manufacturing error that left a cap on that covered two of its sensors. This left the unit unable to detect fires in some circumstances. Fortunately, no injuries or incidences have taken place but you can find out more info on the recall here.
  • Graco High Chairs: Roughly 36,000 of its Table2Table 6-in-1 high chairs have been recalled that were sold at Walmart between October 2016 and December 2017. This model’s legs were unstable and pivoted out of position which caused a handful of children to fall out and suffer bumps and bruises. You can read more info on the recall here.
  • Target jeans: Target has recalled over 30,000 pairs of the Cat & Jack Star-Studded Skinny Jeans which have little metal star decals on the front and bottoms of the legs which can disconnect and cause lacerations. The jeans were sold between September 2017 and November 2017 in sizes 4 – 18P. Read more about the recall here.
  • Amazon Portable Battery Charger: Amazon has recently recalled over 260,000 AmazonBasics portable lithium-ion battery chargers and power banks which can overheat and ignite. There have been reports of 53 incidences of overheating, four reports resulting in property damage, and one report that caused chemical burns from the battery acid. Read more about the recall here.
