Drunk Driver in Virginia Kills Two Women in Crash

Author: Portner & Shure

A Virginia family is reeling as two women driving home from a baby shower Sunday evening were slammed into by a drunk driver, just as the family was planning a funeral for another relative. The drunk driver was moving at a very high rate of speed causing the victim’s car to careen off the road and into a tree. Sadly, both women, who were sisters, died in the accident. One of the women had her son in the car with them, but he only sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.

The accident occurred on Interstate 64 near Richmond. Virginia State Police arrested the driver who caused the crash for drunk driving. This driver, a 24-year-old man, also hit a second car, but fortunately, no one was injured in that crash.

It is unfortunate how often drunk driving related fatal accidents occur. It is never smart to get behind the wheel of a car after you have been drinking. The driver who drove under the influence of alcohol made an irresponsible decision doing so by putting his life and the lives of others in grave danger.

If you have been arrested for a DUI/DWI it is important that you consult an experienced Virginia DUI attorney immediately because DUI is a criminal offense and carries potentially severe penalties. An experienced attorney can guide you through the court process and find any possible defenses that can either mitigate the penalties in the case, or in some instances, lead to an acquittal or dismissal.
