Today there are over a billion users on Facebook, 500 million on Twitter, 500 million on Google+, and 238 million on LinkedIn. It seems that these numbers are growing every day. With social media being such an integral part of our modern existence, it seems apt that the legal system is finally catching up. Right here in our law firm's litigation department, we are seeing more and more requests for social media information during discovery. This means that social media outlets are being scrutinized for evidence. Because of this, clients should be more aware than ever of the type of information they allow for the entire world to see. It is important to understand that certain images or messages clients post about themselves and their activities may be misconstrued against them. To protect yourself, just remember this simple rule: When it doubt, leave it out.
